It’s Tradition, After All

Every year at around this time, I write a blog post about my hopes for the new year. I don’t do new year resolutions, because if I’m passionate enough about something to make a resolution to do it, I’ll do it any old time of year. If I give myself a year to do something, I’ll probably do nothing.

Hopes, though, hopes I like. I enjoy thinking of what I hope the new year will include. Hope is a wonderful thing to have, and I’d far rather dwell on that than a list of demands I’m placing on myself.

So, that said, here is my official List of Hopes For 2013:

  • I hope Wes’s business really takes off. Starting this month, he’s quitting his full time job and will be working for himself instead. It’s scary and thrilling, and I can’t wait to see what happens.
  • I hope my book really takes off. Blood Money (the novel formerly known as Enemy Accountant) comes out next month (AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!) and I’m beyond eager for everyone to read it. Edge-of-my-seat, biting-my-nails excited. It would blow my mind if the people who read it enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
  • I hope Aidan gets super excited about his new school this summer, and loves it endlessly when he gets to start it in September.
  • I hope Lily continues to enjoy snuggling, and stays as sweet and happy as she has been so far.
  • I hope Wes and I lose some (if not most {if not all}) of the weight we gained in 2012. It was a delicious, sedentary year, but I think 2013 needs to be a skinny one.

That’s about it. Some of these things are in my control, some aren’t. Either way, I have every reason to hope for a wonderful 2013 for me and my family.

I hope the same thing for you and yours. That 2013 would be the year that marks a turning point for the better in your life. That it would be a year of growth, joy, and merriment, and that at this time next year you’ll tremble at the thought that 2014 might just top the year previous.

Happy New Year, dear readers!

  1. Those are excellent things to hope for!

My resolution is to work on keep the kitchen counters cleaner. As in, not piled up with miscellaneous junk which really does belong elsewhere. My nature abhors an uncluttered flat surface more than vacuums, apparently.
