Just in case there was any doubt that there’s a very strong, active little boy in there, my baby’s kicks have gone from this:
To this:
We’re not quite to the phase where I feel like a baby velociraptor is trying to maim his way out of my stomach yet, but we’re definitely in the phase where it’s abundantly clear there’s something in there.
I was reading a book one night and had the book balanced just slightly beneath my belly. Squishy took a running start and then BAM giant kick right to the front of my stomach. My belly leaped out so far I couldn’t read part of the page for a second. A small part of the page, but still.
It was awesome.
The only bummer about this week has been sleeping issues. I keep waking up at random times at night and can’t fall back asleep. This usually means I lie awake for three hours before hauling my tired self out from under the blankets to go to work.
It’s annoying but it’s (hopefully) just a phase. This too shall pass. As long as Squishy is happy and squirmy and kicky I’ll be fine.
As far as Squishy goes, I feel like he’s definitely developing a pattern. I can count on him being more active as certain times of the day, and I look forward to those times. I like to get Wes nearby so that he can take part in the show. It’s such fun to watch his mouth drop open when he feels a tiny little foot get round-house kicked out.
Wes also played his guitar for Squishy for the first time this week. He played him songs from Bob Marley, Muse, and Roby Duke. I’m absolutely convinced the baby heard everything and enjoyed it because he started kicking up a storm.
Other than those things, I have very little to report from this week. Probably thanks to the sleep deprivation I mentioned above. In random cool fetal development news: Squishy is set to surpass one pound in weight next week. Such a little porker!

Kung-Pow Squishy?
-Blanche, Absolutely!
